Nine people have been shot by Long Beach (Calif.) PD police officers this year, a trend officials attribute to a poor economy and work furloughs by the police department, the Los Angeles Times reports. In each case, violent suspects failed to comply with commands or brandished weapons.

San Francisco police investigators are seeking the public's help in tracking down a suspect who walked into a downtown bank, explained that he was fed up with corporate bailouts and threatened to detonate a bomb. Smiling throughout the robbery, the suspect got away with a large amount of cash.
