NYPD Plans to Hire 1,300 Officers
Increasing the size of the force had been a top priority of the City Council speaker, Melissa Mark-Viverito, and the notion was endorsed by Mr. de Blasioβs police commissioner, William J. Bratton. But the move has been opposed by some advocates for criminal justice reform, and it is expected to add at least $100 million to the cityβs budget, the New York Times reports.

The 36-second cellphone video starts off with a man pushing an officer from the 32nd Precinct trying to handcuff his sister near 144th Street and 8th Avenue around 11:30 p.m. The sister, Asia Banks, was being arrested for interfering with and pushing officers after they stopped her brother for having an open bottle of cognac.
