The threats were issued following two large drug busts by off-duty officers with the department. Nogales Chief Jeffrey Kirkham learned about the threats via a criminal informant in Mexico who told the agency about a list of officers held by the cartel.

Should Police Reality TV Depict Off-Duty Life?
"Cops" only depicted officers responding and handling calls, and oftentimes the banter that goes along with doing this job. With the newer shows, I was taken aback by how these officers allowed cameras into their personal lives.

Everyone has seen movies where the drill sergeant storms into the barracks and tells the recruits how it's going to be. Some of us lived this. For me, it was at Ft. Dix, N.J. Well, what do you need to do to get through the police academy and the FTO period? Simple; what I was told and what I tell every recruit: Get your life in order!
