San Diego Officer Killed in Apartment Gunbattle
Police identified the slain officer as Christopher Wilson, a 17-year patrol officer and field trainer in the Southeast Division. San Diego Mayor Jerry Sanders described Wilson to the San Diego Union-Tribune as "popular, funny, extremely bright and a consummate professional."

Johns Hopkins Gunman Wounds Surgeon, Then Kills Mother and Self
The suspect barricaded himself in a room of the hospital's thoracic center on the eighth floor of the hospital's Nelson Building. The shooter was reportedly upset about his mother's treatment at the hospital and shot the doctor in the stomach during surgery.

Sacramento County Sheriff's SWAT was called out to what turned into a 56-hour standoff—the longest in Sacramento history—at an 82-unit apartment complex. The suspect shot at SWAT officers, a robot, and the Armored Rescue Vehicle (ARV) on at least eight occasions.

Is Your SWAT Team Really Ready?
Two Lenco Bearcat armored rescue vehicles (ARVs) were used to move perimeter personnel farther back and out of the suspect's line of fire. Ultimately as many as 200 officers from many LE agencies responded to the mutual aid calls for assistance. A number of SWAT teams answered the call and worked the inner perimeter.
