N.J.'s Drug Testing for Officers Expected to Curb Steroid Use
Under a plan introduced by the state's attorney general, anabolic steroids and human growth hormone have been added to the list of substances subject to testing. Local departments must fund the tests, meaning they can decide when to carry them out, and even whether or not to do them.

Funeral Held for Newark Officer Killed in Drive-By Shooting
Newark Police Officer William Johnson was remembered today as a man devoted to his native city and his two daughters a week after he was killed in a drive-by shooting. He was off duty and standing at the counter of a fast-food restaurant in Newark waiting for a slice of pizza.

William Johnson, 45, was a 16-year veteran of the force. Two others were also injured when an unknown assailant pulled up and opened fire into the crowded Texas Fried Chicken and Pizza from inside a moving car.
