Safariland Adds Type II Female Armor Model To Savvy Line
The newly introduced SM01F Type II joins the SM01F Type IIIA as the first NIJ-06 compliant, form-fit female armor to be added to this brand. Tested against the 9mm and .357 Magnum NIJ-designated rounds, the Savvy SM01F Type II is also the first NIJ-06 certified armor panel to offer water-resistant Gore-Tex fabric as a panel covering.

Vest Saves Philly Officer Shot by Suicidal Man
Officer Nicoletti and Winans struggled in the kitchen with Winans grabbing the officer's gun and firing a shot that grazed the officer's vest. Hearing his partner yell, "He's got my gun," Officer McCarthy headed to aid his partner and fatally shot Winans.

NIJ Requires Mandated Wear for Body Armor Funds In Dallas
The NIJ has informed the agency that, "If we're going to supply funds, we expect the officers to wear the vests," Janse said. "In order for us to continue receiving the funds, they're asking us to make it mandatory."

Slain Florida Cop Wasn't Wearing Body Armor
St. Petersburg Police Chief Chuck Harmon said he will review the department's policy of optional body armor for officers. Chief Harmon said vests have improved substantially, yet Florida's heat and humidity have made it hard for him to mandate them for all officers.

The new body armor (MN01 Type IIIA) is a thin, flexible design that features a hybrid of DuPont Kevlar advanced-fiber ballistic materials. SCOTUS: Felons Still Can't Own Body Armor
The court declined to hear the appeal of Cedrick Alderman, an ex-convict from Washington state who challenged a 2002 federal law making it a crime for former felons to possess body armor. Alderman was sentenced to 18 months in prison after he was found with body armor during a police stop.
