394 Fallen Officers to be Honored During Annual Police Week Vigil
Today the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund released the roll call of names of 394 U.S. law enforcement officers who have died in the line of duty. These names will be engraved this month and formally dedicated at the 29th annual Candlelight Vigil held on the National Mall, between 4th and 7th streets on Saturday, May 13, at 8 pm.

64 Officers Shot and Killed in 2016, 21 Ambushed
Firearms-related incidents were the number one cause of death in 2016, with 64 officers shot and killed across the country. This represents a significant spike—56 percent—over the 41 officers killed by gunfire in 2015. Of the 64 shooting deaths of officers this year, 21 were the result of ambush-style attacks—the highest total in more than two decades.

Tuesday night, NLEOMF celebrated the appointment of former U.S. Attorney General John Ashcroft as its new Chairman of the Board of Directors and presented its Distinguished Service Award to Harley-Davidson Inc. at a Congressional reception.

For extracting a driver from a fiery crash, the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund has selected Senior Police Officer Daniel Whitney of the Athens-Clarke County (GA) Police Department as the recipient of its Officer of the Month Award for November 2016.

National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund Issues Statement on Weekend Shootings
A deadly year for law enforcement just got a lot worse these past few days when five officers were shot, two of them fatally. The shootings occurred in four different states and at least three of the incidents appear to have been cold-blooded ambush-style attacks.
