The Buffalo SWAT unit ended an armed confrontation with a shotgun-wielding gunman who shot a police hostage negotiator.
Eric Ocasio, 27, was found with a shotgun near his body. The sheet-metal worker had three children and was going through a divorce.
The incident began when officers responded to a "check the welfare" call on a man who was having suicidal thoughts.
Det. John Garcia, 47, a member of the Hostage Management Team, was struck in the face and parts of the upper body by about a half-dozen pellets while trying to defuse the situation.
