A 39-year-old Phoenix man has been sentenced to 18 years in prison following a trial where prosecutors alleged he was a lieutenant in the Mexican Mafia prison gang.
According to a statement from the Attorney General's Office, John Frederick Farinas was sentenced Friday on charges of assisting a criminal street gang and possession of prison contraband. Farinas conspired to bring contraband into the Fourth Avenue Jail for the profit of gang members.
