Michigan State Police K-9 Killed in Crash

A Michigan State Police K-9 was killed in a patrol vehicle crash Sunday morning on a Detroit freeway.

The MSP K-9 unit was blocking the highway because of flooding that made it too dangerous for traffic when it was hit by a car that burst into flames.

Rex suffered severe spine and leg injuries during the impact and died at a local veterinary hospital, Freep.com reports.

Rex’s handler was also hurt in the crash, but does not have life-threatening injuries, MSP said.

The driver of the vehicle that hit the MSP patrol unit is suspected of DUI.
