Open the Talon Air by sharply extending it toward the ground or the sky, or by pulling the extended tip of the baton's shaft. To retract the Talon Air, just push the release button at the butt-end of the baton's grip with your thumb and press the tip of the shaft against your other hand, your body, or the bottom of the case.
