The New York City police officer pleaded not guilty to first- and second-degree manslaughter in the fatal police shooting of a teenager in his bathroom.
NYPD Officer Richard Haste said today he had "no choice" but to fire the single bullet that killed Ramarley Graham in his Bronx home, reports the New York Times.
In a statement read by his attorney in court, Officer Haste said, "I thought he was going to kill me. So I shot him."
Officer Haste, 31, was released after posting $50,000 bail.
