Several months after its creation, the Long Beach (Calif.) Police Department released the names Wednesday of nine peopleâincluding a Police Magazine advisorâserving on the Use of Force Advisory Committee created to provide a variety of community perspectives on the departmentâs procedures, the Long Beach Press-Telegram reports.
Those on the committee include: Peter Bibring with the ACLU of Southern California; Sandy Cajas, with the Regional Hispanic Chamber of Commerce; Wayne Chaney Jr., pastor at Antioch Church of Long Beach; attorney Marc Greenberg; Greg Meyer, former Los Angeles police captain, use-of-force expert, and Police Magazine advisor; Alex Norman with Rethink Long Beach; Sara Pol-Lim, executive director of United Cambodian Committee; Jessica Quintana, executive director of El Centro CHA and Mort Stuhlbarg, businessleader and vice chairman of development for the California Conference for Equality and Justice.
The committee, created in the wake of last yearâs high number of officer-involved shootings, has already met several times since last year.
A total of 22 officer-involved shootings were logged last year, with six resulting in death. More than a dozen of the incidents involved an armed person, police said, including a woman with a hatchet.
