Four people are dead, including the suspected gunman, after a man went on a deadly shooting spree in Tarboro, N.C., on Saturday afternoon, reports the Wilson Times.

Police later shot and killed the suspected gunman after they tracked him down. The 40-year-old exited a vehicle with his weapon pointed at officers, refusing to put it down or surrender, police said.

George Lee Dickens Jr., 36, was shot and killed at the barbershop where he worked, police said. Witnesses told police an acquaintance, Ian Sherrod, 40, approached him inside the establishment and fired a single gunshot, striking and killing Dickens, Police Sgt. Jesse Webb said.

Sherrod left the scene in a vehicle, witnesses said. He reportedly killed two more people at a residence before he was located in a parking lot and died in a confrontation with officers.

No motive was immediately known.
