Pennsylvania Officer Awarded Congressional Badge of Bravery

Senator Pat Toomey will host a ceremony Wednesday in Harrisburg to present Officer Chad McGowan with this honor given to law enforcement officers for exceptional acts of bravery in the line of duty.

An officer with the Harrisburg (PA) Police Department will be awarded the Congressional Badge of Bravery for risking his life during a 2017 shooting spree targeting police officers.

According to PennLive.com, Senator Pat Toomey will host a ceremony Wednesday in Harrisburg to present Officer Chad McGowan with this honor given to law enforcement officers for exceptional acts of bravery in the line of duty.

The incident—which occurred in December of 2017—involved a 51-year-old naturalized U.S. citizen from Egypt who was targeting police in a shooting spree that spanned across the city.

McGowan is credited with confronting and killing the gunman, saving other officers from death and serious injury.
