The chief of the Croynon (NH) Police Department—a one-officer agency—was told by the town's three-member board of selectmen that his job was being eliminated and the agency disbanded on Tuesday night.

According to USA Today, Chief Richard Lee removed his uniform, his duty gear, his weapon, his body armor, and the keys to his patrol vehicle and walked home in his undergarments during a snowstorm.

Lee said that he didn't want to face the possibility of being arrested if he left the meeting with his department-issued property.

"Well, my cruiser is my way home 'cause it's a take home cruiser and I don't keep any spare clothes in the office so I did what I was ordered to do by the selectboard to turn that stuff over immediately, so I disrobed and I left my office in my underwear, my boots, and a hat," Lee said.
