NV Officer Fatally Shoots Man After Being Shot with Replica BB Handgun

“Preliminarily, the investigation suggests the weapon produced was a replica BB gun; however, further investigation is needed to confirm the capability of the suspected weapon,” the department states in a social media post.

A report of a man with a holstered handgun in Henderson, NV, drew police response and resulted in a fatal officer-involved shooting. Police report the firearm wielded by the suspect appears to be a BB gun.

Just before 7 a.m. Monday, police responded to a call from a business reporting a suspicious man carrying a firearm in a holster. Police say responding officers were advised the individual matched the description of a suspect from a domestic incident earlier that same morning.

Officers arrived and gave chase when the man fled on foot. The suspect tried entering vehicles stopped in the roadway but was not successful. Police report an officer deployed a taser, but it was ineffective.

The Henderson Police Department reports the man “unholstered his handgun, aimed at the officer, and discharged the handgun striking the officer in the face. The injured officer was able to return gunfire, striking the suspect.”

Officers rendered aid to the man, but he later succumbed to his injuries at an area hospital.

“Preliminarily, the investigation suggests the weapon produced was a replica BB gun; however, further investigation is needed to confirm the capability of the suspected weapon,” the department states in a social media post.
