A 14-year-old boy was taken into custody after he allegedly opened fire on an Arizona state trooper in Phoenix on Wednesday morning.

According to NBC News, the trooper saw the teen driving without headlights and effected a traffic stop.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety said that the young man emerged from the stopped vehicle and opened fire on the trooper. The trooper was able to return fire, but neither the subject nor the trooper was struck by gunfire.

A Phoenix PD helicopter tracked the boy to an alley where he was taken into custody.

The teen now faces charges of attempted first-degree murder, aggravated assault, and misconduct with a weapon.
