A Savannah-Chatham (Ga.) Police officer escaped serious injury, when her cell phone deflected a bullet fired by a murder suspect at the end of a vehicle pursuit, reports the Savannah Morning News.

Officer Rebekah Gregory was transported to Memorial University Medical Center following the Wednesday evening pursuit. Suspect Anthony B. Parrish Jr., 21, was also treated for minor injuries.

The pursuit began after Parrish stole a police car and attempted to strike an officer. He eventually crashed into the wood line of Interstate 16 between the Interstate 516 and Chatham Parkway exits.

Parrish opened fire on pursuing units. Officers returned fire and took him into custody. Earlier that day, police charged Parrish with murdering Marray Martin, 20, at a party.
