Tacoma police spokeswoman Wendy Haddow said the officer sped out of the scene for his own safety, fearing that the crowd might break the vehicle’s windows and hurt him.
In apparent response to the riot at the U.S. Capitol earlier this month, the officer wrote: “The silent majority will rise!! Day one of the Revolutionary War!! Hang on, it’s only just begun."
The CMPD has not indicated whether Officer Nerick Lufungula was on duty when he lost consciousness.
Antwan Whitlock, 35, of Union Township, allegedly slashed an officer with a knife in late December, officials said. He was later hit with a Taser and stabbed himself in the chest, although he was not hit when officers fired at him after the alleged knife attack, according to the state attorney general’s office.
Travis Zachary Garrett, 28, intentionally plowed his car into the marked patrol car of LaVigne earlier this month, meriting the capital felony charge of first-degree murder of a law enforcement officer, State Attorney Andrew Warren said.
