Government officials have arrested 103 people believed to be members of the widespread violent street gang Mara Salvatrucha, often called MS-13 as a part of “Operation Community Shield.”

The Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s sting operation used local law enforcement’s information to nab gang members in seven U.S. cities: New York, Washington, Los Angeles, Baltimore, Newark, Miami, and Dallas.

All of those arrested can be deported for being in the country illegally, many of whom also have prior arrests or convictions for violent crimes.

“Our goal is simple: Operation Community Shield aims to dismantle the MS-13 criminal gang by removing gang members from the streets and from the community,” said Homeland Security Assistant Secretary Michael J. Garcia.
