ASLET moves, changes name

LEWIS, Del. — Effective the first of this month, the American Society for Law Enforcement Training (ASLET) headquarters is located in Frederick, Md. Unable to renew ASLET's lease and cramped for space, board members considered their options and decided on the move to the outskirts of Washington, D.C. "In terms of ASLET's future, and the direction we're moving, we want a stronger presence in Washington regarding legislative issues, as well as to look at procuring some grants," ASLET Board of Directors member Kat Kelley told Police. The move will also enable ASLET Executive Director Frank Hackett greater ease in traveling as Frederick is accessible to both Baltimore and Washington airports. The organizationÕs prior offices in Delaware had been a two-and-a-half-hour drive from both cities and a major airport. Kelley said that she expects increased opportunities and growth, and is looking forward to networking with other non-profit organizations in the Beltway area. ASLET also recently underwent a name change from the American Society of Law Enforcement Trainers to the American Society for Law Enforcement Training. The organization has also expanded its membership criteria to take in officers in the criminal justice profession who are interested in training. There is now both a student membership as well as the trainer membership. For more information, contact ASLET Headquarters at 121 North Court St., Frederick, Md. 21701. Its new phone and fax numbers are: (301) 668-9466, fax: (301) 668-9482. — Amy Schmidt, editorial assistant, Police
