The more recent attack took place at night at a village a few miles from Pakistan. Provincial police chief Daulat Khan said there were several hundred people involved in the attack on the station.
Nadir Khan Zadran, another police chief in the area, said he thought there were 200 assailants and that they were members of the former Taliban government.
Other policemen in the police station left the burning building. It was a remote area, making it difficult for the officers to contact authorities at another location.
It was not known if the same group executed both attacks.
