Atlanta cops want to move their station to a building formerly used as a nude dance club.
The infamous Gold Club was shut down last year after owner Steve Kaplan pleaded guilty to racketeering.
Police aren't worried about the club's sordid past. The former site of the Gold Club is prime real estate, and the department would like to move the Zone 2 precinct from its current location in a shopping center.
Because it's such a good location, police might have to fight others to use the building. The U.S. attorney's office won't say what 'others' are vying for the spot.
When the federal government seized the building, it didn't get the property. Kaplan only leased the land. Nine months after Kaplan's conviction, the feds are still negotiating with the property owners about the building's future.
The value of the lease or the land haven't been established. Whatever the price, it might be too steep for Atlanta, a city with an $82 million budget shortfall.
