Noted Firearms Trainer and Author Jim Cirillo Killed in Auto Accident

Madison County Sheriff’s deputies say that Cirillo, author of “Guns, Bullets, and Gunfights: Lessons and Tales from a Modern-Day Gunfighter, was killed when his car was struck by a tractor-trailer truck.

The police training community is mourning the loss of one of its own this week. James “Jim” Cirillo, 76, firearms trainer and author was killed in an auto accident in Brookfield, N.Y.


Madison County Sheriff’s deputies say that Cirillo, author of “Guns, Bullets, and Gunfights: Lessons and Tales from a Modern-Day Gunfighter, was killed when his car was struck by a tractor-trailer truck.

Official reports say the car driven by Cirillo was heading west on Welsh Road around 7 p.m. last Thursday when it entered Route 8 in the path of the truck. The truck driver was not charged.


Cirillo, who was a veteran of the New York Police Department’s Stakeout Unit and a former trainer at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center, died at the scene.
