Sheriff Matt Lori, a 30-year law enforcement veteran, has decided to make a campaign run for the Republican nomination for the Michigan seat, which will be vacated by incumbent Rick Shaffer due to term limits. Lori currently serves as a sheriff in St. Joseph County.
Citing his numerous experiences in law enforcement as the perfect fit for a political career, Lori says he is honored by the community support he is receiving for his anticipated congressional bid.
"Basically I feel humbled by the fact that people think enough of me and my abilities to have me represent them and run for office," says Lori.
Running on a platform premise seeking to return fleeing businesses, jobs and families to the southwest Michigan community, Lori hopes his tenure in office, should he win, will create a better economy and way of life for the constituency.
"I was driving through Elkhart the other day and noticed all of the new construction and expansion going on and it really bothered me when I think of Michigan lagging behind in growth and job development," he said. "We have a talented labor pool here and we are losing more businesses and families every year."
In addition to seeking to improve the local economic market, Lori is opposed to early jail release programs, and he would like to see more state troopers hired.
