A man suspected of helping to plan an attack on soldiers at Fort Dix in New Jersey applied to two police departments, possibly to obtain information from within.
Serder Tatar, 23, applied for a job as a police officer in both Philadelphia, where he had been living, and Oakland, Calif. The Turkish national was rejected by the Philadelphia Police Department because although he is a legal United States resident, he is not a citizen, and he had not lived in Philadelphia for the required length of one year to be considered for the job.
Tatar is charged with conspiring to kill military personnel as part of a planned attack on Fort Dix. He and the five others he was arrested with May 7 could be sentenced to life in prison if convicted.
