Detroit Police Require Alarm Verification for Burglary Response

Starting Monday, the Detroit Police Department will only respond to burglary calls if the alarm company provides verification that an actual break-in has occurred.

Starting Monday, the Detroit Police Department will only respond to burglary calls if the alarm company provides verification that an actual break-in has occurred.

During an announcement, Chief Ralph Godbee Jr. said false alarms have been a tremendous drain on his department's resources. He said 98 percent of burglary alarms are false.

Alarm companies will use video surveillance to conform break-ins before contacting police.
