Monday's Session of FREE Online POLICE Technology Experience Focuses on Officer Efficiency Tools

Doing more or doing the same amount of police operations with fewer officers is one of the key challenges facing law enforcement agencies in America. That's why the second session of the FREE online POLICE Technology Experience (PTE) on Monday Nov. 2 is focusing on officer efficiency tools.

Doing more or doing the same amount of police operations with fewer officers is one of the key challenges facing law enforcement agencies in America. That's why the second session of the FREE online POLICE Technology Experience (PTE) on Monday Nov. 2 is focusing on officer efficiency tools. The programming is sponsored by Brother, Nuance Dragon speech recognition technology, and Tyler Technologies.

The Officer Efficiency PTE program begins 11:30 a.m. Eastern with a one-hour keynote titled "Using Technology to do More with Fewer Officers: Officer Efficiency Tools." Presenter Duane Kietzman, product evangelist for Tyler Technologies, will discuss the role of software and mobile apps in boosting officer productivity.

From 1:10 p.m. to 2:10 p.m. there will be three case study panel discussions on officer efficiency technology.

Case study one is titled "How We've Helped Our Officers Spend Less Time on Reports, and More Time in the Field." Presented by Division Chief Mike Wagner of the Boulder County (CO) Sheriff's Office, this case study looks at how Nuance Dragon speech recognition technology saved officers hours of time per shift.

Case study two is titled "A Deputy Police Chief Reveals e-Citation to Decrease Ticketing Times and Increase Revenue." Presented by Deputy Police Chief Jack Fahrnow of the Olathe (KS) Police Department, this case study details how the Olathe PD cut the time of its average traffic stop down to less than five minutes.

Case study three is titled "Using Technology to Allow Staff to Work Smarter, Not Harder." Presented by Lt. Jim Munro of the Clovis (CA) Police Department, this case study discusses how the Clovis PD is using iPhones to help field personnel complete tasks such as citations, field interviews, logging K-9 use, and tracking call status.

Following the case studies the session sponsors Tyler Technologies, Nuance Dragon speech recognition technology, and Brother will conduct Innovative Solutions Roundtables.

The Nov. 2 "Officer Efficiency Tools" session is part two of the six-part POLICE Technology Experience. POLICE's free virtual technology classes and law enforcement networking events will continue once per week on select weeks in November and December.
