RemComm Communications for Disasters
R.E.M. Communications Inc.
Pittsburgh-based RemComm has developed an advanced radio emergency communications system that provides interoperability across all platforms to improve crisis response when there is no commercial power, cell phone use, or Internet access. The system allows first responders to communicate with each other and others better, coordinate efforts, and even to send and receive data by combining simple radios with laptop computers and interfacing equipment.

If that wasn't bad enough, communications problems among officers from the 25 different agencies involved made it extremely difficult for responders to coordinate the five-hour operation that led to the shooter's surrender.
