Gainesville PD Receives Safety Grant from the Spirit of Blue Foundation and Dunkin' Donuts
The Spirit of Blue Foundation announced today that it has awarded a Safety Training Grant to the Gainesville (Fla.) Police Department to obtain valuable police/youth dialogue training. The focus of this training is building understanding and cooperation between the city's minority youth and the 302 police officers who serve the Gainesville community.

Pittsburgh Steelers' Super Bowl Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger announced the third grant of the 2014-15 season from the Ben Roethlisberger Foundation at The Giving Back Fund. The Foundation will be distributing a grant to the Jacksonville (Fla.) Sheriff's Office to help purchase a new K-9.

Spirit of Blue Presents Grant to Franklin PD on Grand Ole Opry Stage
The Spirit of Blue Foundation presented a safety equipment grant to the Franklin (Tenn.) Police Department on the stage of the Grand Ole Opry. Country music star Craig Morgan led the Opry and its guests in honoring law enforcement officers at a recent show. The grant will be used to purchase ballistic helmets for the Franklin SWAT team.

Steelers' QB Gives K-9 Grant to N.Y. Agencies
The grants will go to the Fort Lee Police Department and Fairfield Police Department. The Fort Lee PD will use the funds to purchase a new K-9 dog for their unit, while the Fairfield PD plans to use the funds to properly outfit a K-9 vehicle with a rear seat insert, automatic door opening system and fan for the dog's safety.

Feds Give Detroit $2M to Hire Officers
The Obama Administration awarded Detroit a $1.8 million grant Friday to hire 10 police officers to help the city fight crime. The grant pays for a police officer's salary and benefits for three years.
