A Gwinnett County (Ga.) Police SWAT team shot and killed a man who had taken five firefighters hostage earlier Wednesday. The hostages were released with only minor injuries.

An ex-con killed two firefighters with the same caliber and make military-style rifle used in the Connecticut school massacre after typing a note pledging to burn down his neighborhood and "do what I like doing best, killing people," police said Tuesday as another body, believed to be the gunman's missing sister, was found.

Kenny Fox, a sergeant for the Decatur County (Tenn.) Sheriff's Office and the fire chief of District 3 in Decaturville, died Saturday morning after saving the lives of two other volunteer firefighters by pushing them out of the way before a roof collapsed in a fire.
