Swatting Incident Leads to Fatal Police Shooting, Suspect in Custody
The incident took place late Thursday when police were called about a supposed domestic incident at a Kansas man's home, where he had shot his father and was holding his other family members at gunpoint, police said in a press conference Friday. When police arrived, the man who opened the door was told to raise his hands -- a command he obeyed until he moved his hands down to his waist, police said.

Video: Off-Duty LAPD Officer Attacked with Blunt Object, Suspect Shot
Preliminary reports from the scene were that two off-duty officers were driving in the area and stopped to confront a man outside an apartment building. At some point, the man hit one of the officers in the head with what was initially reported as a bat, prompting both officers to open fire, hitting the man in the stomach.

LAPD Officer Lost Leg After Being Struck by DUI Suspect on Freeway
Officer Fadi Chelico was standing on the side of the freeway during a traffic stop last Monday night when he was struck and pinned between the suspect vehicle and his police cruiser. His leg was ultimately severed.

LAPD Responds to Southern California Wildfires
Officers of the Los Angeles Police Department have been responding to the area's rash of wildfires this week, serving a wide variety of missions. One of their missions has been to help animals trapped in the fire zones. Officers from the LAPD's equestrian unit helped rescue horses trapped in the massive Creek Fire in Sylmar. The Creek Fire started Tuesday morning and has destroyed at least 30 homes and burned nearly 11,500 acres. Within the city limits LAPD officers responded to the Skirbal Fire, which erupted early Wednesday morning next to the 405 freeway near Mulholland Drive. The Skirball fire has burned nearly 500 acres and destroyed four homes in Bel-Air. Neither fire is contained.
