Shots Fired: Tulsa, Okla., The Alley
Tulsa K-9 Officer Steve Downie was summononed to a dark alley about a mile from a fast-food restaurant that had been robbed on June 10, 1996. Officer Downie and Officer Dick Hobson began searching the alley on foot, when muzzle blasts lighted up the area. Suspect Steven Williams, 21, had engaged officers with a shotgun, firing from a darkened corner in front of a steel plate (visible on the right). Okla. Officers Cleared, Retired Cop Convicted of Corruption
Officer Bruce Bonham and Officer Nick DeBruin were acquitted on all the counts against them. Retired Cpl. Harold Wells was found guilty of drug conspiracy, carrying a firearm during drug trafficking and stealing U.S. funds during the FBI sting at a local motel.

Oklahoma Agency Provides On-Body Video to Officers
The city of Owasso, Okla., will buy 35 cameras from Seattle, Wash.-based Vievu. The city will spend about $31,500 for the cameras and roughly $13,500 for data storage, reports the Tulsa World.

An off-duty Oklahoma City Police officer paralyzed when he tried to help escort rowdy patrons out of a bar will receive "on duty" benefits from the city, including having his medical bills paid and six months of one-the-job injury leave.

By establishing a recruit class, the department is moving forward after layoffs and budget cuts. The department is also facing a federal corruption probe. In the past, academy classes have had just 20 to 25 members.
