IL Governor Threatens Sheriffs Who Won’t Enforce “Assault Weapon” Ban
The Protect Illinois Communities Act (HB 5471) bans the sale of all assault weapons and magazines in the state. It also requires owners to register existing guns, among other provisions. Pritzker signed the bill into law on Tuesday night.

Newsom Signs California Officer Misconduct Law, Raises Hiring Age to 21
The Commission on Peace Officers Standards and Training would first review a local agency’s investigation into the officer’s behavior and determine if another probe is necessary. An advisory board made up of two law enforcement representatives, six members of the community and an attorney could also be recruited to analyze the facts and offer a disciplinary recommendation.

Alabama House Passes Bill to Help Police with PTSD
The bill would require counties and municipalities to reimburse police for insurance copayments for treatment of PTSD. The bill would also provide disability payments to officers who are unable to work because of PTSD.

A bill heard by the Oregon House subcommittee Wednesday would require the state Criminal Justice Commission to create a new public database that captures reports on the use or threatened use of force by each police or corrections officer.

Mississippi Chiefs Plan to Grade State's Lawmakers on Police Support
The association has listed three measures it supports and will grade lawmakers on this session, including state money to help small departments provide bullet-resistant vests, $1,220 a year in supplemental pay for officers at accredited departments.

KY Legislator who Authored No-Knock Warrant Bill Arrested in Louisville Riot, Police Say She Tried to Burn Library
State Representative Attica Scott was part of a large group that was told to disperse but failed to do so. The arrest report alleges that she "caused damage at multiple locations, including setting fire to the Louisville Public Library."
