Springfield Armory XD(M) 3.8 Pistols
As you probably have already noticed, the XD(m) 3.8 and the XD(m) 3.8 Compact get their names from their 3.8 inch-barrel, as opposed to the four-inch barrel standard on the original XD Pistols. The Compact designation is assigned to the 3.8 Pistol, which has the short "Compact/Sub Compact" style grip.

Is the 1911 Still Viable for Law Officers?
The main reason the M1911 is so successful is its grip angle. It's a natural pointer. The pistol takes advantage of the hand's natural geometry to promote accuracy, and the angle also makes the gun a pleasure to shoot. Having said that, certain steps must be taken to make the M1911 ready for carry.

Springfield Armory has introduced a 3.8-inch-barreled version of its XD(M) pistol at SHOT Show 2010. The pistol employs the same frame as the full-size pistol and new slide serrations on a pistol available in 9mm and .40 caliber.
