MPRI Sells 12 Driver Simulators to the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center
MPRI today announced that the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) has purchased 12 PatrolSim IV driver simulators. The simulators will be used to provide basic training to uniformed police and land management professionals.

The PRIsim Portable Trainer from Advanced Interactive Systems is a judgment evaluation and force option training simulation. The training system is designed for portability and a five-minute set-up in a room with controlled lighting. It comes with a drop-in laser, “trigger kit,” carrying case, and has more than 100 pre-installed branching scenarios.

Anyone who has ever watched “Star Trek: The Next Generation”—that’s the one with Picard, not Kirk—has probably noticed a special room on the Enterprise called the “Holo-Deck.” The Holo-Deck uses holograms, transporters, replicators, and other unlikely science-fiction technologies to create an immersive virtual reality that can be used by the Enterprise crew for both recreation and ultra-realistic training.

A new realistic training system from Laser Shot goes beyond normal simulators, allowing officers to draw actual guns and fire at a simulator screen. Laser Shot’s new Live-fire Simulation Trainer is a combination of hardware and software that allows the operator to project simulator scenarios onto a special rubber screen. The screen is self sealing and can absorb thousands of rounds of live fire.

The new Driving Force training simulator from IES offers integrated driving/use-of-force scenarios, stand-alone use-of-force scenarios, and a driving simulator that can branch into a variety of endings depending on the reactions of the driver. Law enforcement agencies can also film and edit their own scenarios and add text and audio to additional scenarios via built-in editing software.

The MPRI-Beamhit 390 series is an interactive small arms training system that uses a video training simulator, which provides judgmental shoot/no shoot scenarios, full-sized target engagement, and other skill-building exercises. Officers can use default training videos or create their own using standard video formats such as .avi or .mpeg.

The AIS/PRISim (Professional Range Instruction Simulator) system offers some of the most realistic training available in the use-of-force simulator market today. The system uses MPEGII quality video with up-to-date scenarios and an ever-expanding library to choose from. PRISim incorporates a Shootback cannon that fires a 68-caliber nylon ball at the trainee when the scenario shoots, reminding the trainee that their cover is anything but perfect.
