University of Texas Student Kills Self In Library
Shortly after 8 a.m., Colton Tooley, a 19-year-old sophomore majoring in math at UT, entered the school's Perry-Castaneda Library and allegedly fired four shots with an AK-47 rifle. The suspect, who was wearing black clothing, then headed to the sixth floor, where he shot himself.

A South Carolina ninth-grader who shot the school resource officer with Socastee High School near Myrtle Beach on Tuesday began posting Twitter messages about his plan on Aug. 23, the first day of school.

Johns Hopkins Gunman Wounds Surgeon, Then Kills Mother and Self
The suspect barricaded himself in a room of the hospital's thoracic center on the eighth floor of the hospital's Nelson Building. The shooter was reportedly upset about his mother's treatment at the hospital and shot the doctor in the stomach during surgery.

Handcuffed Robbery Suspect Took Cruiser On Two-Mile Joy Ride
Officers investigating a burglary at Wing Luke Elementary at 2 a.m. today found and arrested the unnamed suspect, who was able to maneuver his handcuffed wrists in front of him and crawl into the front seat of the patrol car because the partition screen was lowered.

SRO Reported S.D. Teen's School Bomb Plot
Joseph Thomas Hansen, 18, was arrested Aug. 23, the day before he was scheduled to begin his senior year at Sisseton High School. Police arrested the teen after a school resource officer received a tip about Hansen's suspected plot.

N.C. Appeals Ruling on Church-Affiliated College Police Agencies
The State of North Carolina on Thursday filed notice of an appeal with the N.C. Supreme Court and asked the court to delay enforcing a recent lower-court ruling that said Davidson College’s campus police cannot enforce state laws because it is a religious institution.

A North Carolina Court of Appeals has ruled that Davidson College's police department can't perform police duties because of its close ties to a religious institution, which could violate the constitutional separation between church and state.
