Suspect Who Fired at LAPD Copter Arrested
Officers arrived to observe Danny Lopez firing at the police helicopter. Family members eventually tackled Lopez and held him for arrest. Police had responded to a report of gunshots in the 15700 block of Saticoy Street in Van Nuys about 6 a.m.

The federal government's 1033 program allows law enforcement agencies to acquire special vehicles such as an amphibious LAV, Humvee, MRAP, patrol boat, helicopter or even a landing craft for specialized missions. In addition to law enforcement and patrol missions, the mission scope of Texas DPS now includes search and rescue, tactical operations and homeland security missions throughout the state. The AS350 B3 copters will give Texas DPS additional payload, range and endurance to enhance their capacity to respond to these vital missions.

Arizona Sheriff's Helicopter Crashes Near Tucson
Loren Leonberger, a civilian pilot, died at the scene, and three others were injured. Names will be released pending family notification. The helicopter crashed while scouting a location to help identify locations for future radio towers to facilitate communications in the area.

L.A. County Sheriff Hires Hanger One To Equip New Copters
Hangar One will add a Forward Looking Infrared (FLIR) camera system with live video-feed down-linking to each craft. An on-board GPS-based mapping system and multi-band digital radio communications will allow the aircrew to provide real-time support to law enforcement personnel and operational command centers.

The laser used by Sasso is designed only for light shows and industrial or research applications, not for use as a laser pointer or amusement device. It is at least five to ten times more powerful than an ordinary laser pointer and has a range of at least two miles.
