New Recruits Join Savannah-Chatham PD
Fourteen new recruits have joined the Savannah-Chatham (Ga.) Police Department, following 19 weeks of training in the academy. The recruits, who were sworn in July 26 at the Savannah Civic Center, included Nicholas Wissner, a former Army Ranger with five combat deployments.

A federal jury convicted a former Georgia police chief Thursday of abusing a pre-trial detainee. The 54-year-old Walter Young, the former chief of the Omega Police Department, now faces up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

Ga. Man High On 'Bath Salts' Shook Off Multiple TASER Shots
Gwinnett County (Ga.) Police officers subdued a 21-year-old man who had ingested "bath salts" after hitting him with four TASER shots. Karl Laventure, 21, of Atlanta was arrested after threatening to eat customers at a golf range and screaming about rapper Tupac Shakur and religion.
