Police Unity Tour Becomes Member of NLEOMF Board of Directors
For the first time in the organization's 25-year history, the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund has added a new member to its Board of Directors. Meeting in Washington, DC, NLEOMF board members voted unanimously to add the Police Unity Tour to the group of law enforcement organizations that oversee operations of the Memorial Fund.

Officer Timothy Tonkin of Suffolk County (N.Y.) PD Named NLEOMF Officer of the Month
For rescuing trapped victims on two separate occasions, the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund (NLEOMF) has announced the selection of Officer Timothy Tonkin of the Suffolk County (N.Y.) Police Department as its Officer of the Month for December 2008.

Number of Law Enforcement Officers Killed in the U.S. Falls Sharply in 2008
Based on analysis of preliminary data, the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund (NLEOMF) and Concerns of Police Survivors (C.O.P.S.) found that 140 officers have died in the line of duty so far this year. That is 23 percent lower than the 2007 figure of 181, and represents one of the lowest years for officer fatalities since the mid-1960s.
