A 36-year-old Detroit man is facing several charges after he allegedly unleashed his 100-pound bulldog on a police officer while trying to evade arrest, causing injury to the officer.
Darrel Campbell was arraigned Wednesday in 36th District Court on charges of dangerous animal causing serious injury, felonious assault, resisting and obstructing causing injury, and resisting and obstructing.
Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy told CBS Detroit police were investigating Campbell at a home in the area last Sunday afternoon when it’s alleged that Campbell left the house with a bulldog that he unleashed upon the officers while he attempted to flee the scene.
The dog bit one of the officers, although authorities haven’t said how badly the officer was injured. Reports say he was briefly hospitalized. The dog was euthanized.
