By the end of the year, the Morrison, Colorado, police department will be no more. Calls from the town of 400 residents will go to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office.
Monday, Mayor Chris Wolfe and Sheriff Reggie Marinelli met to discuss the future of law enforcement there, 9 News reports.
"We did have to go through our budget, and we just said, it was, fiscally, a better decision to move ahead with our sheriff here as a partner," Wolfe said.
Marinelli said her office and Morrison police already had a working relationship. She said taking over calls for service will have little impact.
Budget documents shared with the town board showed that the police department had an approved budget of $1,574,873 for this year – but is on track to spend $1,725,333.
Wolfe said the department’s officers will be given a severance package. JCSO said it won’t be absorbing the officers, but will have jobs available for them to apply to.
