Retired Kentucky Chief Serving as Sergeant on Same Agency He Commanded Dies from Medical Emergency

Winchester Police say William Marty Jackson II served in law enforcement for 50 years and was chief of police from 1989 to 2008.

Winchester Police reported on Facebook that Sergeant William Marty Jackson II died from  “health issues following a line-of-duty event.” He was 73.

WKYT reports that Sergeant Jackson was the first responder to a call about a combative man who police say was under the influence during the weekend.

According to police, Jackson was not involved in a physical altercation with the man, and two other officers showed up and took the man into custody.

Sunday evening Jackson experienced a medical event and was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Winchester Police say Jackson served in law enforcement for 50 years and was chief of police from 1989 to 2008.

After retiring in 2008, Jackson returned to the department as a sergeant, where he served until his death, Lex18 reports.
