El Paso City Leaders Allocate $6 Million for Police Body Camera Program

The funding will cover the costs for Digital Video Recording Systems, which includes 700 body-worn cameras and 410 mobile video recorders for the El Paso PD.

The El Paso Police Department has been looking into purchasing more than 700 body cameras for their officers, but finding the money had been an issue.

City representatives have now unanimously approved more than $6.6 million in funding from American Rescue Plan funds, KFOX TV reports.

The funding will cover the costs for Digital Video Recording Systems, which includes 700 body-worn cameras and 410 mobile video recorders for the El Paso PD.

The city will match $165,930 and a state grant of $497,790 will go into funding the program.
