Unless Pittsburgh receives at least $26 million in federal pandemic relief, city officials say they may need to cut 600 public employees, including as many as 200 police officers.

City officials say they have until July 1, 2021, to make any decisions on just how many employees they may have to lay off, KDKA reports.

Council members will continue to talk with Public Safety leaders. They will vote on a preliminary budget Dec. 14.
