Improving Pursuit Safety with PursuitAlert

PursuitAlert is a two-part solution. The first part is the digital siren installed into the center console of a law enforcement agency’s vehicle or onto the in-vehicle computer. The second part is the app that area motorists download onto their smartphones.

There is probably no police situation more deadly for officers or for civilians than the high-speed pursuit. Former undersheriff Tim Morgan, now CEO of PursuitAlert, says that vehicle pursuits by law enforcement or reckless driving by fleeing suspects kills on average one American every day.

Morgan has developed a technology that he hopes will change that statistic. Pursuit Alert is a digital siren system that alerts drivers that the road they are traveling on is about to become the scene of a chase and they should take appropriate action to get out of the way. The product can also alert drivers to active shooter incidents, move-over situations, and other potential hazards.

PursuitAlert is a two-part solution. The first part is the digital siren installed into the center console of a law enforcement agency’s vehicle or onto the in-vehicle computer. The second part is the app that area motorists download onto their smartphones. If an officer activates the PursuitAlert system, the motorists receive an alert on their phones. Morgan says PursuitAlert is offered to agencies “at an extremely low cost” and it is easy to install and maintain. “The magic happens in the cloud,” says Morgan.

For Morgan, the real magic is a chance to save lives. He’s had to notify a family that a loved one was killed in a pursuit crash, and it’s something he wants to prevent any other cop from ever having to do it again. “I think PursuitAlert can save a lot of lives,” he says.
