The North Miami Beach Police Department was hit with a ransomware cyber attack and has been told that it must pay millions of dollars to regain access to critical information that has now been locked down, according to an agency statement.

According to NBC News, the agency said that there has been no interruption to public safety services, but that the agency has resorted to using handwritten paper reports in lieu of the digital forms it had been using prior to the attack.

The FBI and other agencies are investigating.
