Chief Daniel Paez of the Perrysburg (OH) Police Department has submitted his resignation—effective on January 8, 2019—after a Lucas County Sheriff's Office investigation into Paez's response to a shooting in August.

According to the Toledo Blade, investigators found that Chief Paez pulled officers from the scene when they were needed to relieve township officers who were “traumatized” by the incident and did so without first conferring with township officials.

"I have a very deep appreciation and gratitude for all of the opportunities and challenges that I have been afforded through my employment with the City," Paez wrote in his resignation letter.

Paez has led the Perrysburg Police Department for more than nine years.
