New San Bernardino, Calif., Chief Embraces Social Media to Promote Transparency

Burguan, who was confirmed by the San Bernardino City Council at its weekly meeting last Monday, dreams of a transparent department with little controversy. He hopes providing information via social media will help.

Changes envisioned by its new interim Chief Jarrod Burguan are making their way into the San Bernardino (Calif.) Police Department, reports The Sun.

Burguan, who was confirmed by the San Bernardino City Council at its weekly meeting last Monday, and began in his interim role Saturday, dreams of a transparent department with little controversy.

"I want to get better at getting information out to residents about what's going on in their neighborhoods," Burguan said. "I'm in the process of getting our leadership in the habit of using social media as a tool to distribute that information."

He said other agencies are becoming very progressive with their use of social media and Burguan wants his department to move in that direction.
